George Borlase Childs was the Surgeon to the City of London Police for over forty years. Born in 1814 in Cornwall, he started his career as a medical apprentice in the Cornish mines, and became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1838. Borlase Childs was the driving force in improving the welfare of police officers.
